Chiwawa River Cabin,

Plain, Washington

This client had owned their cabin on the Chiawa River for years as a vacation property but wanted to update and enlarge it for full-time living. The site featured a challenging design problem: half the structure was inside the flood plain, which prevented us doing any excavating. Our solution was to cut holes in the floor and do all the excavating from the interior.

Project Highlights

  • Custom on-site heavy timber glulam trusses were used throughout.
  • Locally milled heavy timbers for front porch.
  • Natural Montana stone cladding was used for fireplace and front porch.
  • Salvaged roof beams from original cabin were used for stair treads.
  • Sloped and reinforced roof handles the heavy snow load.
